We have had an influx of
orphan foals, both horses and donkeys, and we are desperately in need of funds to support
their ongoing costs. Each foal needs milk powder for several months, along with all the
little extras such as rice bran and hay, young horse supplements, medicines, not to
mention the gas to boil the kettle for the milk and fuel to pump the generator for water.
The overall cost to rear each orphan foal is
about £500. This puts us in a very difficult position as the cost of raising them is
almost more than the cost of buying a horse, but thankfully, we have yet to meet anyone on
our staff who can bring themselves to turn their backs on these little creatures who need
us so badly.
